Usage
|
L-glutamic acid is mainly used in the production of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and spices, and also serves as a salt substitute, nutritional supplement, biochemical reagent, etc.
L-glutamic acid itself can be used as a drug: it participates in the metabolism of proteins and sugars in the brain and promotes the oxidation process. In the human body, this product combines with ammonia to form non-toxic glutamine, which reduces blood ammonia levels and alleviates the symptoms of hepatic coma. It is mainly used for the treatment of hepatic coma and severe hepatic insufficiency, but its curative effect is not very satisfactory; when used in combination with antiepileptic drugs, it can also be used to treat petit mal epilepsy and psychomotor seizures.
Racemic glutamic acid is used in pharmaceutical production and also as a biochemical reagent, among other applications.
